Melissa Keller, MBA
Founder and President, Abigail E. Keller Foundation
Melissa Keller is the Founder and President of the Abigail E. Keller Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to championing and supporting medically fragile and terminally ill children and their families in the Austin, Texas area. Inspired by the life and legacy of her beloved daughter Abbey, who faced numerous health challenges during her 111⁄2 years, Melissa has devoted her efforts to creating meaningful support systems for families navigating similar journeys.
Melissa’s professional background includes significant contributions in public service and advocacy. She served as a Constituent Liaison for a U.S. Congressman, bridging the gap between elected officials and their constituents. Later, she was Communications Director for the Texas Railroad Commissioner, where she managed communication strategies and policy initiatives for one of Texas’ most influential regulatory agencies overseeing the oil and gas industry.
In addition to her public service roles, Melissa was appointed by Texas Governor Rick Perry to the Continuing Advisory Committee for Special Education under the Texas Education Agency (2012–2015). In this role, she advocated for children with special needs and their families, championing better access to education and resources.
Through her personal journey as Abbey’s mother and her professional experiences, Melissa developed a deep understanding of the complexities of raising a medically fragile child. She has navigated the healthcare system, Medicaid, insurance, and special education with unparalleled determination and insight. Under her leadership, the Abigail E. Keller Foundation has raised over $1 million in just six years, funding essential programs and advancing the vision of Abbey House—a first-of-its-kind pediatric respite and hospice facility in Texas.
Melissa combines her lived experience, professional expertise, and unwavering passion to create transformative care solutions for families in need, ensuring Abbey’s legacy continues to shine brightly in the lives of others.
